Description

Our friends from behäppi in Estonia have expanded their series of challenging wooden puzzles with these wonderful new planet puzzles.

So if you're fascinated by the galaxy, the solar system, or the planets, this one is definitely for you!

With a radius of 2440 kilometers, Mercury is the smallest planet in our solar system and closest to the Sun. It is a little more than 1/3 the width of Earth. From an average distance of 58 million kilometers, it takes sunlight 3.2 minutes to travel from the Sun to Mercury.  Mercury is the fastest planet in our solar system, traveling through space at nearly 47 kilometers per second. Since Mercury is the fastest planet and has the shortest distance to travel around the Sun, it has the shortest year of all the planets in our solar system – 88 days. Because of Mercury's elliptical – egg-shaped – orbit, and sluggish rotation, the Sun appears to rise briefly, set, and rise again from some parts of the planet's surface. The same thing happens in reverse at sunset. Mercury's surface temperatures are both extremely hot and cold. Because the planet is so close to the Sun, day temperatures can reach highs of 430°C. Without an atmosphere to retain that heat at night, temperatures can dip as low as -180°C.

This 49-piece, 20-cm puzzle shows Mercury in stunning clarity. The image, provided by Nasa, is one of the clearest images of Mercury ever.

The difficulty level of this puzzle is high. Although the puzzle is challenging, the clear and high-quality image makes it a lot of fun to put this Mercury puzzle together.
