Description
O.E.L. BERLIN
The gift for prolific cooks – a full litre of Koroneiki quality from Andania, ready to refill.
Anyone who cooks daily needs a steady supply – and this 1-litre tin canister is the smartest way to have one. Sous Chef in the canister is the same mild organic olive oil made from 100 % Koroneiki, hand-harvested in Andania, Messenia, simply in the most sustainable packaging form: airtight, light-proof, with a recycling rate of 91.1 % – and designed to keep refilling the glass or squeeze bottle at home.
Refill, Don’t Replace
Sous Chef in the 1-litre canister is the logical continuation of O.E.L. Berlin’s refill concept: buy the beautiful glass bottle or practical squeeze bottle once – then keep topping it up from the canister. This saves packaging material, reduces transport weight, and uses one of the most recyclable materials available: tinplate is magnetic, can be automatically extracted in sorting facilities, and achieves a recycling rate of 91.1 % (glass: 83.4 %). At the same time, the airtight, light-proof canister protects the oil from oxidation better than almost any other packaging form.
The oil in the canister is identical to that in the glass and squeeze bottles: 100 % single-variety Koroneiki from Andania, certified organic (GR-BIO-01), hand-harvested by partner Ilias – Bird Safe, no mechanical night harvesting – cold-extracted at under 27 °C, instantly bottled in UV- and temperature-insulating containers. Acidity below 0.5 %, mild in flavour, built for the hot kitchen.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the refill concept with the canister work?
Simply pour the 1-litre canister directly into the opening of the glass bottle or squeeze bottle – quick, clean, no tools needed. The bottle stays in permanent use; only the canister is replaced. This concept significantly reduces packaging waste and is the most resource-efficient way to use a premium olive oil regularly.
Why is tinplate more sustainable than glass?
Tinplate is magnetic and can be automatically extracted in sorting facilities – hence its recycling rate of 91.1 % (glass: 83.4 %). The canister’s own weight is significantly lower than a comparable glass bottle, saving transport energy on the long journey from Kalamata to Berlin. Additionally, the canister is airtight and fully light-proof – better for preserving sensitive oils than many other packaging forms.
Is the oil in the canister identical to that in the glass bottle?
Yes – same oil, same origin, same quality. The only difference is the packaging. The canister is airtight and fully light-proof, which is actually better for preserving the oil’s compounds than the glass bottle. Both are suited for the same application: mild cooking and sautéing with 100 % Koroneiki from Andania.
What is the difference between Sous Chef and Flüssiges Gold?
Sous Chef is mild and built for the hot kitchen – sautéing, braising, roasting, pasta. Flüssiges Gold is intense, aromatic and unfiltered – with 635 mg/kg polyphenols and aromas of freshly cut grass, green walnuts and citrus notes. It is the finishing oil drizzled cold over salads and finished dishes. Both come from Andania and are 100 % single-variety Koroneiki.
How should I store the canister?
Cool, dark and closed – the tin canister seals airtight and is naturally light-proof, so it provides ideal storage conditions. Room temperature below 20 °C is optimal. After opening, use the contents promptly or pour into a bottle, as oxidation begins once air enters. The canister is the superior long-term storage format.
Is Sous Chef in the canister suitable as a gift?
For cooks who already have a glass bottle or know they use a lot of olive oil, the canister is a very practical, thoughtful gift. For a more visually striking gift presentation, the glass bottle is the better choice. Click on “Corporate Gifts” at the top of the menu – you will find all information about quantities, conditions and personal consultation there.
Can you really cook with olive oil?
Yes – this persistent myth has been disproved. Extra virgin olive oil is heat-stable up to around 180 °C, which is more than sufficient for all standard cooking temperatures. The high content of monounsaturated fatty acids (73.6 g per 100 ml) makes Sous Chef particularly stable under heat. The Cretan diet, long considered the world’s healthiest way of eating, was built precisely on this principle.
