Chresten Sommer has an uncanny ability to create figures of familiar animals that almost seem alive. Spot the deer calf is a good example of his flair for creating magic through curious play with wood.

The little figure has so many fine details to delight you: from the beautifully curved lines of the body decorated with bright dots of maple to the cute head with its expressive eyes and beautifully carved ears.

Chresten Sommer's design is intended to appeal to both sexes of all ages. It must be simple, emphasize the raw aesthetics of wood and combine the natural with the childlike and sweet - and of course always be handmade. It is crucial to him that his figures have just the right proportions and expressions. He is only delighted when he feels it is his best design yet. It's always been the craft - hand-printed - that has drawn him. And it was this fascination with craftsmanship that led him to take up wood design as a hobby 15 years ago.
