BARNER
Glare is gone — the Jake aviator from Barner makes the world look sharper than you knew it could.
The Jake is Barner’s most-loved sunglass — 7,652 reviews confirm a design decision that has been right for decades. The classic aviator frame in matte TR-90 sits light, flexes without breaking, and always returns to its shape. The polarised TAC Category 3 lenses with UV400 protection erase reflections on asphalt, water, and glass instead of simply darkening the image. Available in Black, Black with Amber lenses, Rosé, and Havana.
A gift that gets worn every single summer
You know the feeling: the frame that pinches after an hour, lenses that still glare, and the constant sense of fighting the sun rather than being in it. The Jake fixes exactly that. The aviator silhouette — generously proportioned at 56 mm lens width and 55 mm height — is one of the most universally flattering frame shapes in the world. It works for round, oval, angular, and heart-shaped faces alike. Barner reimagined it with a matte finish: no frame glare, no visual noise, just a pair of glasses that sits right and does its job. With 7,652 reviews, the Jake is not only Barner’s best-selling sunglass — it’s the one people keep. For you or as a gift that travels to every holiday, festival, and morning walk for years to come.
Why polarised TAC lenses change the way you see
The Jake’s lenses are made from TAC — Triacetate Cellulose — in a 7-layer construction. The decisive layer is the polarisation filter: it blocks horizontally polarised light, the exact kind reflected off water surfaces, wet roads, windshields, and glass facades that tires out your eyes. The result is not an artificially darkened image but a sharper, higher-contrast, and more saturated view — as if someone turned up the clarity without taking away the brightness. Category 3 means a light transmission of 8–18 %, suitable for driving, the beach, and any sunny day. UV400 means full protection against UVA and UVB radiation up to 400 nanometres.
Why TR-90 is the right frame material for daily wear
TR-90 is a thermoplastic polyamide with memory-flex behaviour: the frame bends significantly further than conventional plastic but reliably returns to its original shape — no white stress marks, no cracking. Compared to classic acetate, TR-90 is around 40 % lighter, which with the Jake means you barely feel it on your nose. The material is hypoallergenic — no nickel, no acetate plasticisers — making it suitable for sensitive skin and everyday wear. The matte finish absorbs fingerprints and frame reflections alike, giving the Jake its understated, urban character.

Frequently asked questions
Does an aviator really suit every face shape?
The aviator is widely considered one of the most universally flattering frame shapes. The Jake’s teardrop lens geometry softens sharp jaw lines and works beautifully with oval, round, square, and heart-shaped faces. At 142 mm frame width and 55 mm height, it provides generous coverage that also suits broader faces well.
What does Category 3 mean — can I wear these while driving?
Yes. Category 3 corresponds to a light transmission of 8–18 % — the standard for normal to strong sunlight, suitable for driving, the beach, hiking, and everyday city use. For extreme conditions like high-altitude glacier terrain, Category 4 is recommended. Do not wear the Jake at dusk or in low-light conditions.
Is TR-90 really flexible enough to survive a backpack?
Yes. TR-90 has a significantly higher flex tolerance than standard plastic frames. The Jake’s frame can be bent considerably without cracking or showing white stress lines, and returns to its original shape afterwards. This makes it suitable for everyday carry without a hard case.
How do I clean polarised lenses properly?
Only with the included microfibre cloth — never wipe polarised lenses dry with a t-shirt, paper towel, or rough fabric. Coarse fibres and dry wiping can scratch the polarisation film. For stubborn smudges: hold lenses briefly under lukewarm water, then pat dry with the microfibre cloth.
Can I have prescription lenses fitted?
C&M sells the Jake as a non-prescription model. If you need vision correction, consult your optician directly — TR-90 frames can generally be adapted, though this depends on the individual model and optician.
