The aviator is never wrong – Brad is the pair for someone who knows exactly what sunglasses should look like.
Some frame shapes need no introduction. The aviator is one of them. Brad brings this classic into TR-90 – and that is not a small update. Where a traditional metal frame bends permanently when you sit on it or force it into a bag, TR-90 flexes and returns. The teardrop lens at 55 mm width defines the aviator silhouette; the 15 mm bridge sits close to the nose in the classic aviator tradition. Two colours: Black, Havana. No experiments, no surprises.
A gift for someone who takes sunglasses seriously
Some people have a very clear picture of what a pair of sunglasses should be. Not an experiment, not a new silhouette – the classic, done properly. Brad is that. At 141 × 52 mm the frame sits generously; the teardrop lens at 55 mm gives the signature aviator look: a lot of lens, a clear contour. The glossy TR-90 frame has quiet presence without drawing attention to itself. As a gift: Brad Black is the purist choice. Brad Havana is for someone who wears the aviator with a touch of warmth. In both cases: a pair that will be worn, not kept in a drawer.
Why TR-90 is a better frame material for an aviator than metal
The traditional aviator frame is made of metal – light but permanently deformable. Anyone who has ever bent a metal frame on a bedside table and never quite straightened it again understands the problem. TR-90 solves it: the thermoplastic polyamide has memory-flex behaviour – the frame bends under pressure and returns to its original shape. No permanent kink, no white stress lines, no snapping. TR-90 is around 40 % lighter than acetate, fully hypoallergenic and suitable for sensitive skin. The 15 mm bridge sits close and snug – the classic fit characteristic of the original aviator.
What polarised lenses do when you are driving or near water
An aviator is often the first reach when getting into a car. The polarised TAC lenses of the Brad are the right companion: the polarisation filter blocks horizontally polarised light – the reflections off wet roads, windshields and water surfaces. The result is not a darker image; it is a clear, contrast-rich image without blinding glare spots. The lenses are built from seven layers of TAC (triacetate cellulose). Category 3 means 8–18 % light transmission – suitable for everyday use, the beach and driving. UV400 provides full protection against UVA and UVB radiation.

Frequently asked questions
Does an aviator frame suit every face shape?
The aviator is widely considered one of the most universally flattering frame shapes. The teardrop lens works well on oval, heart-shaped and angular faces; on round faces it adds a lengthening effect. The Brad at 141 mm width fits medium to slightly wider faces well. The 15 mm bridge is the narrowest in the Barner range and is designed for narrower to medium nose bridges.
What is the difference between glossy TR-90 and a metal frame?
A traditional metal aviator frame is thinner and permanently deformable – once bent the wrong way it rarely returns to its original geometry. TR-90 has memory-flex behaviour: it deforms under pressure and returns to its original shape. Additionally, TR-90 is hypoallergenic and significantly lighter than most metal alloys used for eyewear. The glossy finish gives TR-90 a quiet surface sheen that approximates metal without the structural drawbacks.
Why is the Brad only available in two colours?
The choice of Black and Havana is deliberate: the aviator is an iconic shape that needs no colour to make a statement. Both options are classic aviator colours – Black for the purist look, Havana for the warm tortoiseshell variant. The two-colour programme is a commitment to the form over the palette.
How do I clean and store the Brad?
Clean the lenses with the included microfibre cloth only. Dry wiping with rough fabrics (T-shirt, paper towel) wears down the seven-layer TAC construction over time. For stubborn smears, rinse lenses under lukewarm water and dab dry with the microfibre cloth. Store the glasses in the included neoprene case; the soft interior prevents scratches on both frame and lenses.
