Description

BLOCK DESIGN · Idle Hands

Chess you leave out after the game – because it's too good-looking to put away.

Gradient Chess by Block Design is the classic game reimagined through colour: 32 painted wooden pieces whose shades run from deep to light. One side plays in warm tones from burgundy through red and orange to yellow, the other in cool tones from navy through blue and turquoise to mint. The game is played on a natural wooden board where the dark squares are marked by fine engraved hatching. A gift for anyone who loves chess – and design just as much. Recommended for ages 8 and up.

Is Gradient Chess a complete chess set?

Yes. The set includes the wooden board and all 32 pieces – 16 per side, with king, queen, rooks, bishops, knights and pawns. It is played by the standard rules of chess.

Are the pieces easy to tell apart despite the gradient?

Yes. The pieces have a classic, Staunton-like shape, and the two sides are clearly warm versus cool. The gradient within each side is pure design – it doesn't change the rules.

Who is this chess set a good gift for?

For chess players with an eye for design, for families who play together and for anyone looking for a game that also looks good on a shelf or coffee table. Recommended for ages 8 and up.

Can it be left out as decoration?

That's exactly the idea – Block Design itself says: play it, display it. With the pieces set up, the board becomes a colourful object on the table.

Which other games belong to the Gradient range?

From Block Design’s Gradient range, we also stock the domino game “Gradient Dominoes” with 28 tiles around the colour wheel, the stacking game “Gradient Tower” with 48 wooden blocks – in blue-green or pink-red, the solitaire game “Gradient Solitaire” with 33 balls around the colour wheel, the “Gradient” playing cards, 52 cards in a colour gradient and the “Gradient Newton’s Cradle” with balls in greens and blues. All follow the same idea: a classic reimagined through colour – to play with and to put on display.

Is Gradient Chess suitable as a corporate gift?

Yes – for clients, teams or as a present for chess fans at the office. Click “Corporate Gifts” in the top menu — all details on quantities, terms and personal advice are there.
