Description

BLUE RIBBON TOYS · Sin Ying Tracy Leung

Click, clack, pung – the game night nobody wants to leave early.

Modern Tiles is a mahjong game by Blue Ribbon Toys from Thailand, designed by Sin Ying Tracy Leung (2025). Instead of traditional characters, its 152 rubberwood tiles carry clear, colourful screen-printed symbols – circles, stripes, drops, stars, elements, flowers and butterflies. It is played to Hong Kong rules, and eight blank tiles mean you can also play American mahjong. Tiles, two star chips, three dice and an illustrated rule book come in a wooden box of about 35.7 × 24.2 × 5.4 cm.

Is the set suitable for beginners?

Yes. The illustrated rule book explains the rules and terms of Hong Kong mahjong step by step – words like pung, kong or sik are learned as you play. Please note the rule book is in English.

Can I also play American mahjong with it?

Yes. With 144 printed tiles plus eight extra blank tiles you have enough flexibility to play by American rules; you simply assign the dragons to the suits.

How do the tiles differ from classic mahjong?

The symbols are redesigned: circles, stripes and drops stand for the three suits, stars for the wind tiles, elements for the dragons, and flowers and butterflies for the flower and season tiles. That makes the game easy to read without Chinese characters.

Who is the set a good gift for?

For game-night hosts, families, couples and anyone who likes board games with good design. It also makes a housewarming gift that doesn't disappear into a cupboard, because the wooden box looks good on a shelf.

How do I care for the wooden tiles?

Wipe them with a dry or slightly damp microfibre cloth after playing. Avoid harsh cleaners or wood polish so the screen print stays crisp.

Is the set suitable as a corporate gift?

Yes – a game that brings people round one table suits teams and clients alike. Click “Corporate Gifts” in the top menu — all details on quantities, terms and personal advice are there.
