365 typefaces. 365 days. The calendar designers have been waiting all year for.
Tear off one page, discover one new typeface, read the story behind it on the back. That's the Typodarium — an annual tear-off desk calendar from Verlag Hermann Schmidt (Mainz), curated by Raban Ruddigkeit and Lars Harmsen from the best of the international type scene. Each edition is “eagerly awaited each year by designers and agency creatives” according to the publisher — and anyone who has ever given one as a gift knows why. Frequently Asked Questions
Who is the Typodarium the perfect gift for?
For anyone who cares about type — graphic designers, type enthusiasts, design students, art directors, or anyone who would rather start the day with a new typeface than a motivational quote. The publisher describes it as eagerly awaited each year by “designers and agency creatives.” In studio gift exchanges, as a Christmas present, or as a birthday gift: there is very little that lands as reliably as a Typodarium.
What is special about the 2027 edition?
The 2027 Typodarium dedicates every Sunday to the monospace revival: type designers from around the world reinterpret typewriter aesthetics — retro charm combined with contemporary precision. The Sunday pages are a curated look at one of the most compelling trends in current type design.
How does the calendar work?
The Typodarium consists of 384 double-sided cards (8.5 × 12 cm): the front shows the typeface in a specimen layout; the back gives the story — designer, year, and context. Cards are printed in twelve colours. The collector's box serves as both a desk easel and an archive for the torn-off pages — by year's end, it holds a curated typeface collection ready to go on a shelf.
Do you need a design background to enjoy it?
Not at all. The back of every card provides the context, so no prior knowledge of typography is required. For experts it's a daily trend radar; for newcomers it's a year-long introduction to the world's type scene. “A feast not just for designers!” — as one retailer puts it.
