100PERCENT

The cleaning cloth that refolds itself into a red crane right before your eyes.

The Peti Peto is the glasses cleaning cloth that never disappears into a case. Its 100 % polyester fabric is permanently shaped into the form of Tsuru – the red crane – via a precision pleating process that encodes shape memory into the weave. Unfold it, clean your glasses, toss it in the air – and it returns to crane form on its own. The Tsuru has represented luck, longevity and peace in Japan for centuries: as the Peti Peto, it is one of the best gifts you can give someone who wears glasses – and has a feel for the extraordinary.

100 % Polyester · 20 × 20 cm (unfolded) · Shape-Memory Fabric · Made in Japan · 100percent

The Peti Peto looks like a standard origami at first glance – but it is a fully functional cleaning cloth. The secret is in the material: the polyester fabric is treated using a precision pleating process that permanently encodes a shape memory into the weave. The result: a cloth you can unfold, use, and then simply toss into the air – and it returns to its origami shape on its own.

The trick: after cleaning, toss the cloth into the palm of your hand and bounce it a few times – and the Red Crane reforms before your eyes. The shape memory survives washing in cold water. Important: never iron it.

The crane – Tsuru – is the most iconic origami motif in the world. Japanese legend holds that the wish of anyone who folds one thousand paper cranes will be granted: Senbazuru. In Japanese colour symbolism, red stands for vitality, energy and good fortune.

How does the shape memory in the Peti Peto work exactly?

The polyester fabric is permanently shaped using a precision pleating process. When you unfold the cloth and then bounce it in your hands or toss it into the air, the fabric activates its shape memory and returns to origami form – no refolding needed, no instructions. The shape memory survives cold water washing.

Is the Peti Peto really a cleaning cloth or mainly a toy?

Both. The soft polyester fabric cleans glasses lenses, smartphone screens and camera lenses without scratching. At the same time, watching it refold itself is the most entertaining thing a cleaning cloth has ever done. It works equally well as a daily utility and as a party trick.

What occasions suit the Peti Peto as a gift?

As a souvenir, birthday or Christmas gift – especially for glasses wearers. As a Japan-themed gift. As a thoughtful small gift for colleagues. As an add-on to a larger present. It fits in any envelope and is gift-ready without additional wrapping.

How do I clean the Peti Peto?

Cold hand wash is possible – the shape memory remains intact. Never iron: heat destroys the pleating and permanently removes the origami form. Air dry at room temperature and the form returns on its own.

Is the Peti Peto available in other motifs?

Yes – at Charles & Marie the Peti Peto is available in eight further motifs: white crane (TSURU White), Mount Fuji (FUJISAN), giraffe (KIRIN), duck (AHIRU), penguin (PENGUIN), zebra (SHIMAUMA), red airplane (AIRPLANE Red) and sky blue airplane (AIRPLANE Sky Blue). Each motif is a separate product and can be ordered individually – or combined into a personally curated set as a gift.

What size is the cloth when unfolded?

20 × 20 cm – large enough to clean glasses lenses, smartphone screens and camera lenses comfortably. Folded, it fits in any wallet, trouser pocket or backpack.

Can the Peti Peto be ordered as a corporate gift?

Click on “Corporate Gifts” in the top menu – you’ll find all information on quantities, terms and personal consultation there.

What makes the Peti Peto different from a standard glasses cleaning cloth?

A standard cloth does its job. The Peti Peto does that too – and then returns to origami form as if by magic. That is the difference between an everyday object and one that delivers a small moment of wonder every single time.
