Description

UYAMA METAL WORKS · 100percent

A solid stainless steel and knurled brass object that turns the simplest desk gesture – tearing off a sheet of paper – into a small ceremony. Compact, for A6 paper.

The Desk Pad by UYAMA METAL WORKS is a memo sheet holder made from solid stainless steel with a hairline finish and knurled brass fasteners. An angled stainless steel clamping bar presses the paper fully flush against the base – the result: a straight, clean tear line, whether on the first or the twentieth sheet. An object for people who use the reverse side of printed documents as note sheets – and who will experience that gesture differently from now on. Designed by 100percent, made by Uyama Seisakusho – metal precision specialists from Japan.

Stainless Steel & Brass · A6 · W 115 × D 156 × H 17 mm · approx. 330 g · Made in Japan

The mechanism is as simple as it is effective: a thick, angled stainless steel clamping bar holds the paper fully flush against the tear edge. Because the heavy metal bar fixes the sheet without any play, it tears – A6, A5 or A4 – straight and clean. Not just the first sheet. After ten or twenty sheets, the precision is unchanged. The weight of the stainless steel creates a sound and feel when tearing that plastic clipboards simply cannot achieve.

The A6 is the most compact model – ideal for desks with limited space, for short notes in postcard format, or for people who want to bring their desk pad to meetings. Despite its compact size, the Desk Pad A6 weighs around 330 g – the weight of solid stainless steel is palpable.

UYAMA METAL WORKS is a factory label: 100percent – the Japanese design studio behind UNDIAL and Peti Peto – handles the design. Uyama Seisakusho, a metal precision manufacturing specialist from Japan, handles production. The result is an object that carries its origin in its material: thick stainless steel with hairline finish, knurled brass fasteners, minimal radius treatment on the corners.

The Desk Pad accepts any paper that can be torn by hand and fits the corresponding size – typically A6, A5 or A4 copy paper. Particularly well-suited for people who reuse one-sided printed documents as note sheets: the Desk Pad turns the reverse-side-note into a considered ritual.

What paper can I use with the Desk Pad?

Standard copy paper – the kind that comes out of any printer. The Desk Pad was designed precisely for this: A4, A5 and A6 copy paper, or the reverse sides of printed documents. Any paper that can be torn by hand and fits the pad’s size will work.

How do I load paper into the Desk Pad?

Loosen the knurled brass fasteners, slide the paper under the clamping bar, tighten the fasteners again. The screws do not need to be removed entirely – loosening is enough. A whole stack of copy paper can be loaded in one step.

What makes the tear line so precise?

The clamping bar is slightly angled and presses the paper fully flush against the stainless steel base – no play at all. Because the bar is solid and heavy, this tension remains constant after the tenth and twentieth sheet. The result: a straight, clean tear on every single sheet.

Why does tearing feel so different compared to an ordinary clipboard?

The weight of the stainless steel bar transfers directly into the sound and feel of the tear. Plastic clamps give way; here, solid metal holds. The sound is full, the feel precise. This is immediately understood on the first use.

Which size is right for me – A4, A5 or A6?

A6 is the most compact model – for postcard-sized notes, small desks and people who bring their pad to meetings. A5 (148 × 210 mm) is the best-selling model and fits any desk as a standard notebook size. A4 is the largest model for people who use full-size copy paper and want a powerful desk presence.

How do I care for the Desk Pad?

Stainless steel and brass are low-maintenance – a soft dry cloth is sufficient for cleaning. The stainless steel has a hairline finish that can be refreshed with a fine cloth in the direction of the finish if needed. Note: when first removing the protective film from the stainless surface, residue may remain – this is easily removed with a soft cloth or cleaning agent.

Is the Desk Pad suitable as a gift?

A gift for people who appreciate intelligent desk objects – especially for those who have never thought about their memo pad holder before. The Desk Pad A6 is the most compact model, comes in a premium presentation box and makes it immediately clear that the giver was paying attention.
