Description
BARNER
Round, subtle, unmistakable — Le Marais carries the spirit of Paris’s most creative neighbourhood.
Le Marais is Barner’s homage to round frame design — named after the Parisian neighbourhood that has been the creative and artistic heart of the city for centuries. The TR-90 round frame with polarised TAC Category 3 lenses is deliberately compact at 50 mm lens width and 49 mm height: retro without costume, 1960s reference without museum. Available in Black, Intense Rust, and Havana.
A gift for people who notice the details
The problem with many round-frame sunglasses: they try too hard. They reach for the 1960s, for Janis Joplin or John Lennon, and end up closer to costume than style. Le Marais does it differently. At 50 mm lens width and 49 mm height, the frame is unusually compact — no dominant presence, no dramatic gesture, just a round shape that frames the face without overwhelming it. The name is a statement of intent: Le Marais in Paris is the neighbourhood where creatives, artists, and designers have been settling for centuries — a place of considered style that doesn’t need to shout. This is the anti-overstatement round frame. A gift for those who love the 1960s and 70s aesthetic without living in the past.
Why polarised TAC lenses change how you see
Le Marais’s lenses are made from TAC — Triacetate Cellulose — in a 7-layer construction. The polarisation filter blocks horizontally polarised light: the exact reflections from water surfaces, wet roads, windshields, and glass facades that exhaust your eyes and blur the image. The result is sharper, higher-contrast vision with less eye fatigue — without artificially darkening the image. Category 3 means 8–18 % light transmission, the standard for normal to strong sunlight, suitable for driving. UV400 means full protection against UVA and UVB radiation up to 400 nanometres.
Why TR-90 is the right choice for a round frame
TR-90 is a thermoplastic polyamide with memory-flex behaviour: the frame bends without breaking and reliably returns to its original shape. This is especially relevant for a round frame, which needs to remain geometrically precise over time. Compared to acetate, TR-90 is around 40 % lighter — on a small frame like Le Marais, that means barely noticeable on the nose. The material is hypoallergenic, free from nickel and plasticisers, and suited to sensitive skin and daily wear. The 20 mm bridge — the widest in the Barner range — is Le Marais’s most distinctive feature: it anchors the round lenses structurally and gives the frame a character all of its own.

Frequently asked questions
Which face shapes work best with a round frame?
Round frames suit square and angular face shapes particularly well, as the soft curves soften pronounced jawlines and cheekbones. For oval or round faces, the key is size: Le Marais’s compact 50 mm lens width works well for medium to narrower face dimensions without overwhelming softer features.
What does Category 3 mean — can I drive with these?
Yes. Category 3 means a light transmission of 8–18 % — the standard for normal to strong sunlight, suitable for driving, beach days, hiking, and everyday city use. Category 4 is recommended for extreme high-altitude or glacier conditions. Do not wear Le Marais at dusk or in low-light conditions.
What does Intense Rust look like as a frame colour?
Intense Rust is a deep, warm rust-brown — closer to a mature terracotta than to a bright orange. Unlike Havana, which shows transparent amber and brown tones, Intense Rust is opaque with an earthy depth. Especially elegant with warm skin tones and autumn outfit palettes.
Is TR-90 flexible enough to survive everyday carrying without a hard case?
Yes. TR-90 has a significantly higher flex tolerance than conventional plastic or acetate. The Le Marais frame returns to its precise round geometry after bending, without stress marks or cracking — especially relevant for a shape that needs to maintain exact circular proportions.
How do I clean polarised lenses properly?
Only with the included microfibre cloth — never dry-wipe with a t-shirt, paper towel, or rough fabric. Coarse fibres can scratch the polarisation film. For stubborn smudges: hold lenses briefly under lukewarm water, then pat dry with the microfibre cloth.
Le Marais — Parisian lightness on Barner precision. For you or as a gift that has a point of view.
