Description
BARNER
Slim, horizontal, effortlessly right – the Holly is the frame that suits almost every face.
Some silhouettes are timeless not because they try to stand out, but because they simply work. The Holly is that kind of frame. The slim horizontal rectangle sits light and clean – neither too large nor too dominant – and flatters round, oval, angular and heart-shaped faces equally well. Glossy finish, polarised TAC lenses, TR-90 frame. Available in Black, Ecru Olive and Laguna – a blue-green that photographs like nothing else in the range.
The classic summer gift – three completely different colour stories
When you know someone needs a new pair of sunglasses but are not sure which direction to take – the Holly is the safe and inspired choice. The slim 137 × 45 mm rectangle is one of the most universally flattering shapes in eyewear: there is almost no face shape it does not suit. Black is the undeniable classic. Ecru Olive is the understated choice for someone who loves muted earth tones. And Laguna – that deep, saturated blue-green – is the pair that draws comments every time it appears on a beach photo. As a gift: Laguna gets noticed.
How the Holly filters the light that exhausts your eyes
Reflections off water, wet tarmac, windshields and glass buildings are all horizontally polarised light – and it is that light that causes squinting, headaches and visual fatigue. A polarisation filter blocks exactly that angle. The seven TAC layers in the Holly lenses provide the right construction for this: triacetate cellulose is dimensionally stable, scratch-resistant and carries the polarisation film without distortion. Category 3 means 8–18 % light transmission – the right level for summer in the city, by the water or on the road. UV400 blocks UVA and UVB completely.
Why TR-90 matters particularly in a slim frame
The slimmer the frame, the more mechanical stress it puts on the material. At 45 mm frame height, TR-90 is the right choice: this thermoplastic polyamide with memory-flex behaviour flexes without breaking and returns to its original shape – even after being pushed into a bag the wrong way. TR-90 is around 40 % lighter than acetate, fully hypoallergenic (no nickel, no plasticisers) and suitable for all-day wear. The glossy finish on the Holly is a deliberate design choice: it puts a small shine on the frame that makes the silhouette visible.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Holly designed mainly for women?
The Holly has the slimmest and most elegant silhouette in the Barner range and is positioned primarily as a feminine shape. The slim rectangle at 137 mm wide and 45 mm tall works best on medium to slightly narrower faces. People with very wide cheekbones or a large interpupillary distance may prefer the broader Max frame.
What is the difference between glossy and matte TR-90 in practice?
The material properties of TR-90 are identical in both finishes: same flexibility, same weight, same hypoallergenic profile. The glossy finish reflects light from the frame surface and gives the glasses a more visible presence – the frame becomes part of the statement. The matte finish recedes. Neither is objectively better; it is a question of personal style.
What makes the Laguna colour stand out?
Laguna is a desaturated blue-green – a colour that sits between aqua and teal, shifting in appearance depending on the light. It photographs exceptionally well because the frame catches light differently at different angles. As a gift choice: Laguna is for someone who wears colour confidently but does not want to take a risk on something extreme.
Can I drive wearing Category 3 sunglasses?
Yes. Category 3 lenses (8–18 % light transmission) are road-legal in Germany and across the EU. The polarisation filter provides additional benefit while driving: it eliminates glare from wet road surfaces and windshields. Remove the glasses at dusk, in tunnels and at night.
