SIDE BY SIDE  ·  CUTTING BOARD XL

50 × 31 cm maple and oak — for everyone who wants genuine room on a cutting board.

A cutting board in maple and oak, 50 cm long, 31 cm wide and 6 cm high, 3.4 kg — designed by Andreas Ulbricht, awarded the Form 2003 design prize, and handcrafted at the Wendelstein Werkstätten and Caritas Werkstatt München. The generous surface gives real working space: meat, vegetables, bread, and accompaniments side by side without anything falling off the edge. The raised foot rails allow a plate or bowl to be slid directly underneath, so chopped ingredients transfer in one move. Rubber grips in the rails keep the board steady on any surface.

Why a cutting board this size — when does XL make the difference?

50 × 31 cm means: slicing meat while keeping vegetables ready to one side, a full loaf of bread plus charcuterie, a cheese board for guests without anything crowding off the edge. Anyone who knows how quickly a standard board fills up knows what the XL format delivers. At 3.4 kg of solid wood, it stays put without being told to.

What do the foot rails contribute in everyday use?

The foot rails raise the board to 6 cm overall height — enough clearance to slide a plate or bowl directly underneath and transfer chopped ingredients in a single sweep without lifting. Also useful if the kitchen work surface feels too low: the raised board brings the cutting surface closer to the body. Rubber grips in the rails add non-slip security on top of the board’s own 3.4 kg weight.

How do I care for a cutting board in untreated maple and oak?

Do not put untreated wood in the dishwasher and do not leave it submerged in water. Wash with warm water after use and dry immediately. For regular care, rub in a food-safe clear wood oil or beeswax — the board becomes more resilient and develops a warm patina. At 3.4 kg of solid wood, the investment in care pays off: a board meant to last a lifetime.

Can I order the Cutting Board XL as a corporate gift?

Yes — the Cutting Board XL is an exceptional corporate gift for cooking enthusiasts: handcrafted, award-winning, and a lasting presence in any kitchen. Click “Corporate Gifts” in the top menu — all details on quantities, terms and personal advice are there.

Who designed the board — and what is the Form 2003?

Andreas Ulbricht designed the Cutting Board XL, which was awarded the Form 2003 — one of Germany’s most respected design prizes for objects in which form and function are inseparable. The board is produced by the Wendelstein Werkstätten and the Caritas Werkstatt München, two non-profit workshops for people with disabilities. High-quality design and social responsibility in one object.
