AREAWARE · Talbot & Yoon

Curly, Enny or Jay — three glazed stoneware vases that stay on the shelf, whether flowers are in them or not.

Areaware calls the Kirby Vase a “best bud vase” — a vase that keeps you company. Curly, Enny and Jay are not simply three sizes of the same vase: each has its own silhouette, its own proportions, its own presence in the room. New York architect duo Talbot & Yoon designed three compact vases in glazed stoneware that work as solo objects and make each other better when grouped. Areaware, Brooklyn.

What is the difference between Curly, Enny and Jay?

All three are glazed stoneware vases — but each has a different shape and personality. Curly is the tallest (H 20.3 cm) with a full, curved silhouette. Enny is the most compact (H 15.2 cm), balanced and calm. Jay (H 15.9 cm) is the widest, with the most unexpected depth (18.6 cm) — wider than it is tall, making it the most distinctive silhouette of the three. Each works on its own; grouped together they create a natural, effortless composition.

Can I use the Kirby Vase with real flowers?

Yes — the Kirby Vase is a bud vase, designed for a single stem or a small bunch. The glazed stoneware is watertight and suitable for cut flowers. A single tulip, ranunculus or wildflower works beautifully — but the vase is equally complete as a pure object without anything in it.

How do I care for the Kirby Vase?

Wipe the outside with a soft, damp cloth. The glazed stoneware is robust but not dishwasher-safe — handwashing is enough and keeps the surface in good condition over time. Protect from strong impacts and extreme temperature changes.

Who designed the Kirby Vase?

The design comes from Talbot & Yoon — Mark Talbot and Youngjin Yoon, both trained and licensed architects based in New York. For Areaware, they apply architectural thinking to everyday objects: precise forms, clear material statements, no unnecessary ornament. The Kirby Vase is a direct expression of that approach.

Is this a good gift?

The Kirby Vase is a strong gift for people who collect design objects and appreciate everyday things with personality — design enthusiasts, architecture lovers, or anyone who already has enough vases and will want this one anyway. The choice of variant (Curly, Enny or Jay) makes it feel considered rather than generic.
