Description
THE SCHOOL OF LIFE
The lifelong project of understanding yourself — it begins here.
Know Yourself is a book by The School of Life — hardback, 192 pages, 18.0 × 12.5 cm. Drawing on philosophy and psychotherapy, it introduces the most demanding of all tasks: self-knowledge. It explains why we are so often mysteries to ourselves, how our childhoods quietly shape our behaviour and what fleeting dreams, moods and experiences can reveal about who we are. The gift for anyone who genuinely wants to understand themselves better.
The gift for greater self-understanding
We may spend years mastering the external world — degrees, careers, families. But who or what is actually driving all of this? Who are we, really? Know Yourself offers orientation: with clarity, gentleness and depth, the book explains why we are so often strangers to ourselves, how childhood experiences shape our behaviour in ways we rarely notice and what an abrupt comment, a strange dream or a lingering mood can reveal about us. Drawing on philosophy and psychotherapy. As a birthday or Christmas gift for anyone who no longer wants to remain a mystery to themselves.
Philosophy and psychotherapy as tools
Know Yourself is not a self-help book with quick answers — it is a serious, respectful companion on the path to greater self-knowledge. The School of Life combines philosophical thinking with psychotherapeutic insight to show how we can tune in to our inner signals, revisit the past without fear and better understand our desires, fears and longings.

Frequently asked questions
Why do we so often remain mysteries to ourselves?
Know Yourself explains that self-knowledge is not a given — it is a skill that must be actively developed. Childhood shapes our behaviour in ways we often cannot see directly; the book gives us tools to recognise these patterns.
What sources does the book draw on?
Know Yourself draws on the wisdom of philosophy and psychotherapy — two disciplines that have approached the question of how we understand ourselves from different but complementary angles.
Who is Know Yourself a good gift for?
For reflective people, for those in transitional phases, for anyone who wants a clearer picture of themselves. A book that shows you want to offer the recipient something genuinely valuable.
What language is the book in?
Know Yourself is published in English.
How does Know Yourself differ from questionnaire-based self-help books?
Know Yourself works through philosophical depth and psychotherapeutic insight rather than isolated questionnaires. The book accompanies the reader in thinking — not ticking boxes on a checklist.
