Lisa, who gave the set as a birth gift, writes that it was a creative present that went down very well – comprehensive questions, beautifully designed, a welcome addition to the usual parenting guides.

Tobias, who gifted it to a pregnant friend, notes the lovely colours, that the couple were delighted, and that he wishes he'd had something like it before the birth of his own first child.

Julia, who played the set during her babymoon, reports that it was genuinely fun – lighter questions mixed with more serious topics about becoming parents. She found it especially valuable to talk about their own childhoods and ideas about raising children.

Expectant parents receive a lot of gifts. Most are practical, but none of them get people talking – really talking. What do I want to model for my child? What might our first holiday as a family of three look like? These are the questions that rarely come up between midwife appointments and painting the nursery.

Dr. Sabine M., psychologist and mother of three, puts it plainly: she wishes something like this had existed when her first child was born.

The Ask cards open up conversations about expectations, values and visions – from questions about parenting approaches to what family life might look like in a few years. The Task cards are shared activities: for example, each partner writes down three strengths they see in the other in their new role as a mum or dad.

The set can be played before or shortly after birth. Each person decides whether to answer a question or simply listen. The veto card allows any question to be skipped, no explanation needed.

The set was created with support from specialists in psychology, pedagogy and midwifery, and extensively tested. finimi was founded in 2024 by Renée Fuchs in Cologne, with the goal of bringing people closer through genuine conversations – especially during life phases when everything is happening at once.

Who is this set designed for?

For expectant parents during pregnancy and for new parents in the early weeks after birth. Equally suitable as a gift or for your own use.

When should the set be played – before or after the birth?

Both work well. The set is designed for use during the final months of pregnancy or in the early weeks after birth. Many couples play it during the third trimester or on their babymoon.

How many cards are included?

53 cards: 42 question cards, 10 task cards and one veto card.

What is the veto card?

The veto card lets either person skip a question without giving a reason, keeping the experience comfortable even when more personal topics come up.

How do you play Ask & Task for New Parents?

Draw Ask cards in turns and answer the questions – individually or together, however feels right. Task cards are shared activities that can be drawn as a break from questions or at the end.

Is the set also available in English?

Yes. The set is available in both German and English – ideal as a gift for international couples or for use in English-speaking contexts.

Is it a good gift for a birth or baby shower?

Very much so. It's one of the few gifts that is for the couple, not the baby – and one that carries meaning beyond the first moment of unwrapping.

Who developed the set?

finimi founder Renée Fuchs, together with specialists in psychology, pedagogy and midwifery. Extensively tested before launch.

Is the set sustainably produced?

Yes. Cards are printed on FSC-certified paper with a compostable protective sleeve. Produced in Europe (Poland).

Are there other finimi sets?

Yes. finimi offers sets for siblings, children, couples, plus Selflove, Birthday and Begegnung mit Herz editions – all based on the Ask & Task concept.

Ask & Task for New Parents – the gift expectant parents actually need. Not for the changing table, but for each other.

Ready to gift – for a baby shower, as a birth gift, or as a surprise just before the due date.
